ILM Level 3 Award and Certificate in Effective Coaching
An ILM Level 3 Coaching Qualification is a great starter programme for coaches providing a good level of knowledge and skills in coaching within a workplace or other similar context.
Trainee coaches for this ILM qualification could be employees, freelancers or volunteers and will gain both competence and confidence in operating as an effective coach.
Learners embarking on any ILM qualification will require time and commitment to undertake the activities required to achieve the accreditation.
Who is it for?
This qualification is designed for people with some supervisory or basic management experience – including team leaders, first-line managers or independent coaches. You will get the skills, knowledge, tools and confidence to coach people as part of your normal working role or as an additional role.
What do the Award and Certificate Cover?
The Level 3 Award and Certificate both include three units (modules) as outlined below, covering knowledge and practical application: –
- Understanding Good Practice in Coaching within an Organisational Context
- Undertaking Coaching within an Organisational Context (6 hours Award/12 hours Certificate)
- Reflecting on Coaching Skills within an Organisational Context
** The Certificate requires extra coaching hours with more tutorial support and coaching supervision
Course Delivery
We offer a combination of routes which include a fully taught model of workshops and blended learning models with a combination of workshops, e-learning and webinars. We can and do deliver the whole programme virtually, using MS Teams or Zoom.
Typically, the level 3 fully taught programme would include 4-6 half-day workshops or 1-2-1 tutor lead sessions.
All learners have an ILM Qualification Induction, receive a course textbook plus other materials including our bespoke E-learning programme, regular 1-2-1 tutorials and coaching supervision.
Assessment Activities
Requirements for three units include a written knowledge assignment, a reflective coaching diary documenting your practical journey and supporting evidence from your coachees and supervisor tracking your progress through observation, review, supervision and tutorial support.

ILM Qualification Costs
Open courses from £1275 + Vat per head in person and £995 + Vat for virtual delivery. In-house courses start from £1075 + Vat per head for the Award inclusive of ILM fees and all programme components (In-house). Discounts available for group bookings of 10+ learners.

Progression to other ILM Qualifications
After completing this qualification, you may wish to progress onto the level 5 Certificate or Diploma in Coaching & Mentoring if you wish to coach/mentor at a higher level. You may also be interested in ILM Qualifications in Leadership and Management which we offer at levels 3, 5 and 7.
